East Africa is home to two groups of Killifish, one an Annual and the other Lampeyes

West Africa is where the most diverse groups reside.  They include some Lampeyes, but the larger groups are species of the Aphyosemion, Fundulopanchax and related species.

Madagascar is restricted to a single group of killifish – Pachypanchax.

The Mediterannean contains numerous species primarily considered as closely related to North American Cyprinodon, but in the hobby are still refered to as Aphanius.  These fish extend into parts of soutern Europe also.
