RIVULUS (Poey, 1860)

CLASSIFICATION – Genus: Rivulus   Family: Rivulidae     Class: Actinopterygii     Phylum: Chordata    Order: Cyprinodontiformes

Rivulus is the commonly used descriptive term used for a large group of killifish found in South America, the Caribbean, and Central America.  One is even found in North America.  In recent years, what once were all called Rivulus have been divided into a number of separate genera which is documented in an article below.  Rivulus also is a genus in this category containing only three species.

KillieNutz Online has been studying the usage of Dr. Costa’ relagation of many Rivulus species into separate genus.  After struggling with the options, it has been decided to separate the species into sub-genus levels in the primary listing found on the left side and to note that listing in the  scientific classification of each species.
