EPIPLATYS NIGRICANS Pellegrin, 1904
Epiplatys nigricans is contained within a larger area on the eastern banks of the Zaire River. It is also found in the drainage systems of the Uele, Tshuapa, lower Kasai and Sankuru Rivers. It has been found in Lake Fwa. It appears to be restricted to forested areas of small rivers, swamps, and creeks.
When compared to its cousin Epiplatys chevalieri chevalieri this species is slimmer and displays a dark band running the length of the body. In general it is darker.
Epiplatys Nigricans was former identified as Epiplatys chevalieri nigricans, but now has been given full species status.
