EPIPLATYS ANNULATUS  Boulenger 1915
Genus: Epiplatys     Family: Nothobranchiidae     Class: Actinopterygii     Phylum: Chordate    Order: Cyprinodontiformes

Photo obtained from Shutterstock – No author noted    Epiplatys annulatus has been a very popular killifish for a long time, but it is also not and easy species to maintain and propagate.  The very small size of the fry and the food necessary to raise them the first couple of weeks requires an infusoria base before they are large enough to accept newly hatched baby brine shrimp.  The most successful breeders tend to use a heavily planted tank (with java moss and water sprite) and remove the parents when fry are seen.  The theory is that infusoria in the plants provides enough food for the fry.
